James M. McCreedy

James M. McCreedy was born in Hackensack, New Jersey. He is a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, New Jersey; the College of William and Mary; and the Dickinson School of Law, Penn State University.

Jim was admitted to the Bars of the State of New Jersey and the State of Pennsylvania in the year 1991; the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1994 and the United States Supreme Court in 2004. He served as a law clerk for the Honorable Melvin P. Antell, P.J.A.D. during the 1991-1992 term.

Jim has been counsel in a number of influential published cases, including for example Abbott v. Burke, 136 N.J. 444 (1994) (school funding); First Morris Bank v. Roland Offset, 357 N.J.Super. 68 (App. Div. 2003), certif. denied, 176 N.J. 429 (2003) (banking law); Petrusky v. Maxfli Dunlop Corp., 342 N.J.Super. 77, certif. denied, 170 N.J. 388 (2001) (employment discrimination); Weiss v. Goldfarb, 295 N.J.Super 212 (App. Div. 1996), rev'd 154 N.J. 468 (1998) (medical malpractice, ultimate outcome jury charge); Nead v. Union County Educational Services, 2010 WL1768559 (2010) (affirming summary judgment in favor of school district in an employment case alleging constructive discharge and various federal/state causes of action); L.F. v. Morris School District (2005 N.J. Admin.) (reimbursement for a unilateral placement case); M.B. o/b/o D.B. v. Morris School District, 2003 WL 21996077 (2003) (ALJ dismisses student’s special education unilateral placement petition following trial).

Jim practices in a number of areas including school law, insurance defense, banking, employment discrimination and labor, collection, personal injury, medical malpractice, environmental, bankruptcy, and real estate. Jim also defends public entities in tort, civil rights, and employment cases. Consistent with our firm's practice, Jim's cases have taken him to municipal courts around the state, the OAL, the Chancery and Law Division of New Jersey Superior Court, federal District Court, the Bankruptcy Court, the New Jersey Appellate Division, the New Jersey Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and state and federal courts in Pennsylvania. For the last several years, Jim has been named a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers magazine1.

Jim is currently serving on the School Law Committee as well as the Judicial Administration Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He has been a member of the District X Ethics Committee covering Morris and Sussex Counties. Jim is a member of the Morris County, New Jersey State and the American Bar Association. He participated in the Worrall F. Mountain Inn of Court. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey and the Madison Co-op Nursery School and is a Cubmaster.

Jim is married to a fellow Morris County lawyer and the two reside locally and have three children, including a set of twins.
